Volunteerism: Key Enabler for Nation Building
India@75 Foundation an initiative of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), symbolizing its nation building agenda together organized fourth edition of the National Volunteer Week (NVW) from 18 to 24 January, 2017.
The week celebrated volunteerism across India in about 72 cities, 1401 villages, mobilizing about 150,000 volunteers and generating more than 250,000 volunteering hours.
India@75 and CII have been working on a vision of creating an inclusively developed India by 2022 by working on seven vision elements covering skills, education, economy, urbanization & environmental sustainability, agriculture & health, innovation , moral leadership etc.
CII and India@75 have been celebrating Volunteering Week since Jan, 2014 in an endeavor to aggregate the ongoing efforts of the stakeholders in this space and also to synergize the same to align them and augment the efforts of the Government to ensure impactful delivery of the various social developmental initiatives / schemes at the grass roots. India@75 has also been working on the niche volunteering under its Pro Bono initiative to connect skilled corporate volunteers to non-profits for building their intrinsic capacities and also creating long term sustainable relationships.
Concluding event of the Volunteering Week was organized at New Delhi themed ‘Volunteerism: Key Enabler for Nation Building’.
Shri Vijay Goel, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports during his Keynote address briefed the audience about volunteering activities of NSS & NYKS besides urging them to engage with the Government to create a larger impact. He congratulated CII – India@75 for starting the National Volunteering Week initiative and said “India@75 must try and sustain volunteering beyond the National Volunteering Week and undertake activities that would have a long term impact on the ground”.
Panelists in various session included Mr. Shankar Venkateshwaran, Chief, Tata Sustainability, Mr. Anshu Gupta, Founder, Goonj, Dr Dinesh Tyagi, CEO, CSC E-Governance Services, Mr. Shrikant Sinha, CEO, NASSCOM Foundation, Mr. Nishant Pandey, Country Director, and American India Foundation amongst others.
NGO’s, Corporates and young volunteers attended the conclave.
